Resolved Question: What can i do about a non compliant landlord?

This is my first apartment, and by far one of the worst experiences of my life, im only 19 so it was extremely difficult to find an apartment in the first place. I pay my rent, yet my landlord fails to do simple things such as put in smoke detectors, window guards [i have a 4yr old], fix the tub faucet which DOES NOT stop leaking, and we go 3 days at a time without hot water, I have read a tenants rights and responsibilities for New York, but im not sure exactly what my options are or who i can call to help fix this situation, i have made many attempts to get this resolved with the landlord.
